Oil Runs Into the Weekend
Energy led the board on Friday — Brent up 2.4% — while Wall Street slipped and India held green. The soy complex sits quiet, sugar is flat, and gold holds near $3,876.
Brent crude closed Friday at $113.43 a barrel, up 2.37% on the day, with WTI close behind at $104.12, up 2.08%. Heating oil — the diesel proxy the freight world watches — rose 1.93% to $4.68 a gallon. Natural gas was the odd one out, off 1.83% at $2.90. When fuel leads the board into a weekend, Monday's freight quotes feel it first.
The soy complex ended the week in a hush: soybean oil firmed 0.40% to 65.9 cents a pound while the beans themselves barely moved at $12.34 a bushel. Wheat was flat at $6.04; corn eased 0.78% to $4.48. Quiet grain boards are a buyer's friend — the desk prices oil lanes off the oil, and the oil is the one that moved.
Raw sugar held at 19.37 cents a pound, up a whisper. Refined ICUMSA 45 still trades well above the raw board — the desk's benchmark for FOB Brazil remains $600–615 a tonne, and the weekly assessments refresh on Monday's board.
Wall Street gave back ground on Friday — the S&P 500 off 1.82% and the Nasdaq 2.86%, with Toronto down 1.74% — while India closed green, the Nifty up 0.51% and the Sensex 0.42%. Gold held at $3,876 an ounce and silver at $49.25. The dollar prices the house's world at 1.3966 Canadian, 95.07 rupees, 0.7471 pounds and 3.6725 dirhams.
Sessions reopen Monday across Mumbai, Dubai, London, Toronto and New York. The desk watches three things: whether energy holds its Friday run when the floors reopen, the Monday fertilizer assessments, and the first full week of this board — the Morning Board now opens the house's day, every day the markets sit.
